ÖBAG dividend for 2024: Republic of Austria to receive EUR 1.26 billion
The Management Board’s dividend proposal for 2024 was approved at today’s Annual General Meeting of Österreichische Beteiligungs AG (ÖBAG). On 1 July, the Ministry of Labour and Economy, which is the 100% owner of ÖBAG, will receive EUR 766.93 million in dividends that include a special dividend of EUR 175 million from OMV. Together with the EUR 496 million payout from VERBUND, the total volume of dividends paid out to the Republic of Austria by the companies managed by ÖBAG amounts to EUR 1.26 billion.
Compared to the financial year 2023 in which dividends of EUR 1.67 billion were distributed this is a decline of around 25%. Apart from the discontinued special dividends from VERBUND and BIG, and the lower dividends received from OMV, the trend is explained by the roughly EUR 100 million, which the Ministry has requested to be distributed as part of dividend payments in the coming year.
“The past year has once again demonstrated the sound position of ÖBAG’s holdings. All of our portfolio companies performed very well again. This is illustrated by the dividend payments to the Republic of Austria of well over one billion euro for the third year in a row,” said ÖBAG CEO Edith Hlawati.
“I congratulate ÖBAG and its portfolio companies on this strong result. With a dividend of over one billion euros, the Republic of Austria is noticeably benefiting from the successful investment management for the third time in a row. However, investment policy must not be limited to managing success and distributing dividends. In the future, ÖBAG will be even more strongly aligned with the Republic’s strategic interests. This means that shareholdings should not only operate soundly but also make a targeted contribution to technological sovereignty and economic transformation. To this end, the Supervisory Board today launched a strategy process which, in addition to evaluating the existing strategic orientation, includes the further development of ÖBAG’s corporate and investment strategy as well as its ownership strategy with regards to its shareholdings,” said Federal Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer.
At the Annual General Meeting, the Ministry of Labour and Economy in its role as owner, reappointed Günther Ofner and Michael Höllerer to the Supervisory Board for a further three years. Helene Schuberth will replace Susanne Höllinger on the Supervisory Board. The period of office for the representatives of the Works Councils of Österreichische Post and Telekom Austria, Richard Köhler and Gerhard Bayer, respectively, was extended for a further five years. Angela Schorna replaces Nicole Schachenhofer on the Supervisory Board to represent OMV.
